The Napali Coast spans 17 miles across the North Shore. The coastline is lined with cliffs, ridges, beaches, and waterfalls that form a stunning landscape.

The Napali Coast State Parks allow you to view amazing overlooks from the coastline. This coastline is remote, pristine, and one of the most unique landscapes across the globe.

Most exploration of the coast is done by plane or boat. Commonly, travelers stay on the eastern coastline of Kauai in a town called Wailua. The Napali Coast is approximately 1 hour from Wailua.

2. Waimea Canyon

The Waimea Canyon is nicknamed the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. Make sure to travel through the entire canyon by car, stopping at the vast overlooks along the way. In addition, dozens of trails will allow you to explore the canyon more intimately.  This canyon is located on the southwestern portion of Kauai, slightly over 1 hour from Wailua.

The Kalalau hiking trail is known for winding through valleys, waterfalls, caves, and vivid overlooks. This trail is extremely long (up to 22 miles), so many travelers only complete a portion of the hike. The hike begins at Ke’e beach, strolls along hills that coincide with the ocean, and winds through jungle mountain views, and ends at the road on Kauai’s North Shore. The Kalalau Trail is on the North Shore, approximately 1 hour from Wailua.

Fern Grotto is an interesting wonder where ferns grow upside down. To travel to Fern Grotto, you must travel through the Wailua River via boat. This grotto is filled with majestic flora, thousands of ferns, and many native Hawaiian plants. Fern Grotto is located in the Wailua area.

5. Kilauea Lighthouse

The Kilauea Lighthouse is located at the tip of a national wildlife refuge. Not only is the view of the lighthouse incredible, but you can also sometimes see whales migrating. The view and wildlife found at the Kilauea Lighthouse are ones that you do not want to miss! Kilauea is on the northern tip of Kauai, roughly 30 minutes from Wailua.

6. Hanalei Bay

The view from Hanalei Bay is one with shimmering waters and steep mountainsides. The Hanalei Pier is located in the bay and lies beautifully against the mountainous backdrop. Hanalei Bay is a secluded place to get away for a day or five. This bay is on the north shore of Kauai, roughly 40 minutes from Wailua.

Planning a quick escape from Austin? San Antonio, the historic heart of Texas, is less than two hours away and perfect for an efficient, high-impact visit. This is the ultimate guide to seeing San Antonio’s highlights in just four hours. The perfect half-day itinerary.

You’ll hit the must-see spots, from the historic Alamo to the iconic River Walk, ensuring you maximize every minute of your trip.

Visit the Alamo

The first stop on my San Antonio adventure was the iconic Alamo, undoubtedly the city’s most famous landmark. Don’t be surprised if it’s crowded, especially if you arrive later in the day. The Alamo, along with the River Walk, is at the top of the must-see list for many visitors. San Antonio is often affectionately called “Alamo City.”

Originally called Misión San Antonio de Padua, the Alamo was established in the early 18th century by Spanish Catholic missionaries as both a mission and a fortress. It became a key site during the Texas Revolution in 1836 when it was the location of the famous Battle of the Alamo.

Located just a short 10-minute walk from the Greyhound bus station, it’s easy to reach. The building is under renovation until 2027, so while many of the artifacts are hidden, there’s still plenty to see. If you can’t access the interior, don’t worry, you won’t be missing out on much!

Admission to the Alamo site is free — you only need to reserve a free timed-entry ticket to visit the Church and grounds.

If you want more than that, there are two paid ways to upgrade your visit:

• Self-guided experience: the “A Line in the Sand™” audio tour — includes access to the new exhibit at the Ralston Family Collections Center, plus the audio tour costs about $20 for adults / $18 for children.
• Guided tour: the “Remember the Alamo™” guided walking tour — includes the church, exhibit, and a history interpreter, costs about $48 for adults / $38 for kids (12 and under).

Whether you explore for free or pay extra for tours, you can also browse the small on-site museum and gift shop for souvenirs.

Outside the Alamo, there is a beautiful garden and courtyard with cool statues of the heroes and plants.

Pro-tip: For the best pictures without the crowd, get to the Alamo early to beat the rush and avoid waiting in line.

Other places to see near the Alamo

After exploring the Alamo, you should check out the other four missions that make up the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park. They are part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site and are conveniently located along the San Antonio River, making it easy to explore them all in one go.

Mission Concepción (Mission Nuestra Señora de la Purísima Concepción de Acuña). This mission is located approximately 3 miles south of the Alamo and is known for its well-preserved Spanish colonial architecture and beautiful frescoes.

Mission San José (Mission San José y San Miguel de Aguayo). Mission San José is often referred to as the “Queen of the Missions” for its size and the extent of its restoration. It features a stunning church with intricate carvings and an iconic rose window known as Rosa’s Window.

Mission San Juan (Mission San Juan Capistrano). Located further south of Mission San José, Mission San Juan is noted for its beautiful chapel and historic farmlands. The mission was a vital community center, and its agricultural practices contributed to the self-sufficiency of the community.

Mission Espada (Mission San Francisco de la Espada). The southernmost of the missions, Mission Espada, features a picturesque chapel, original frescoes, and an operational aqueduct used for irrigation. The mission’s architecture and layout provide insights into the early mission life and community planning.

Explore  San Fernando De Bexar Cathedral

Next, take a short 10-minute walk to the San Fernando De Bexar Cathedral, located in the heart of Main Plaza. As one of the oldest cathedrals in the U.S., it’s not only a place of worship but also a symbol of the city’s rich history. The church’s strategic location in the center of the city makes it easily accessible. Due to flood and fire damage in the early 1800s, significant parts of the cathedral were rebuilt, adding layers to its storied past.

In the evening, don’t miss the stunning free light show at the cathedral. This vibrant visual history of San Antonio is projected onto the church’s front facade, showcasing the city’s evolution from the past to the present. The show lasts about 20-25 minutes and is performed four days a week. On Thursdays and Sundays from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm with 30-minute intervals, and Fridays and Saturdays from 9:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Nearby, there’s a lovely small park with benches where you can relax and take in the beautiful view. This is truly a San Antonio experience you won’t want to miss!

Explore River Walk (Paseo del Rio)

Next, head over to San Antonio’s most popular spot: the River Walk. It’s a vibrant and scenic area offering plenty to do and see. When I arrived early, the crowds were light, allowing me to capture beautiful pictures and take in the peaceful surroundings. The River Walk spans 15 miles, lined with numerous restaurants and small shops, making it the perfect place to relax or explore.

If you’d rather not walk, consider taking a guided boat tour. For about $15, you can enjoy a 25-minute ride along the river, learning about the history and sights around you. The boat tours depart right by the Rivercenter Mall, or to skip the lines, you can purchase your ticket online in advance. Whether you’re here to dine, shop, or simply enjoy the view, the River Walk is a must-visit!

The Riverwalk became my favorite spot because it was a place with such a different atmosphere and vibe. It had so many beautiful things to see, and I felt so good there, walking and exploring.

Grab a Bite in San Antonio

After a long walk, there’s nothing better than enjoying a meal at a cozy, friendly spot. One of the best things to do in San Antonio is to indulge in delicious food, whether it’s Tex-Mex, BBQ, or fresh farm-to-market dishes.

I had lunch at La Villita Cafe, a perfect spot with tasty food, great prices, and a welcoming owner. It’s conveniently located between the Alamo and the Riverwalk, so you can’t miss it.

I also wanted to try La Panaderia, a trendy bakery, but the line was too long. If you have time, definitely check it out!

Traveling to San Antonio, Texas, from Austin

A trip to San Antonio, Texas, from Austin is less than 2 hours (about 80 miles) away if you travel by car or by bus. I’ve decided to travel by bus and bought a round-trip ticket to San Antonio, Texas, online on the Greyhound site. You can find alternative options for purchasing tickets at different prices, so check a few to compare the fares and schedules.

You can also plan a day trip from San Antonio to Austin by following the same options. It’s a great experience to check out both cities if you can.

PRO-TIP: Try to buy tickets upfront (minimum, a week ahead) as the price gets higher when the date of your trip is closer.

I recommend buying an early morning ticket to maximize your time exploring the city. A round-trip bus ticket from Austin should cost around $29.98 (plus taxes & fees). I departed at 6:50 am and spent a fulfilling day in San Antonio.

I chose a return bus at 12:45 pm to give myself plenty of time in the city. The journey felt so quick as I ended up taking a nap as soon as I got on the bus and woke up just as we arrived!

Pro tip: Expect occasional delays with the bus schedule, so it’s always best to plan for extra time.

New Orleans in one day? Totally doable and insanely fun. Ready for a solo adventure? This is the exact route I crushed, proving that even first-time visitors can soak up the city’s rich culture in just 24 hours. Get ready for beignets, streetcars, mansions, po’boys, jazz, and zero cars needed.

9:00 am – Visit the French Quarter (Start at Jackson Square)

Jackson Square quickly became my favorite spot in the French Quarter. It’s one of the most iconic places in New Orleans, right next to the Mississippi River, with a beautiful boardwalk to stroll along. The area is always full of artists, little shops, restaurants, and museums, which makes it one of the liveliest and most popular places to visit in the city.

10:00 am – Visit Beignets at Café du Monde

Choose an empty table, take a seat, and a waitress will come to you. If you’re in a hurry and don’t want to wait, head to the right-hand window to place your order directly.

Book Food & Culture Tour

11:00 am – Explore the French Market

You’ll find tons of local products, handmade crafts, DIY items, and fun souvenirs at the French Market. Just bring some cash, as many small vendors don’t take cards.

12:30 pm – Walk Bourbon & Royal Streets

Bourbon Street is pretty quiet during the day. However, it comes alive at night, mainly because of the many festivals. This street is full of bars and restaurants with different cuisines. Royal Street is another must-visit in the area. It is one of the original streets in NOLA, which gained popularity because of antique shops, art galleries, and hotels.

Get a quick lunch in some authentic NOLA spots.

2:00 pm – Ride a Vintage Streetcar

If you’re not in a rush, I suggest riding a Streetcar. The single ticket will cost you $1.25, and you can pay the driver directly with exact cash. Alternatively, daily passes are available as well. The streetcars run along four lines, all starting Downtown, providing a unique opportunity to explore both the French Quarter and lesser-known areas

There are two downsides, though:

• It’s slow and not ideal if you must be somewhere at a specific time.

• Drivers don’t always announce stops or the final station, so keep an eye on the map and where other people are getting off.

3:00 pm – Get Lost on Magazine Street

If you are a big shopper, you should check Magazine Street. It is located in Uptown, with many locally owned boutiques, galleries, and restaurants. Just be prepared that you might need to walk a lot, as it is 6 miles long.

5:00 pm – Take a short break at Louis Armstrong Park

If you are tired from walking, get some rest in Louis Armstrong Park. It is a lovely, peaceful park where you can relax on a bench and observe extraordinary sculptures, duck ponds, and different trees and plants. 30-45 minutes is enough to spend there.

6:00 pm – Pay a visit to Carousel Bar & Lounge 

It is located inside the Hotel Monteleone. You will most likely have to wait to get a bar seat, as it is busy over there. However, it offers guests a pleasant, slow carousel rotation around a world-class cocktail bar every 15 minutes, so it might be worth the long wait.

Passes are sold in the streetcars by the driver. I bought a 1-day pass (for $3), which I could use on any transport, and it was enough for me as I stayed for two days and walked most of the time. To make it even easier, you can download the LePass App by NORTA to buy your passes directly on your phone.

If you prefer flexibility, rideshares like Uber and Lyft are widely available, and taxis can be found in tourist-heavy areas. Walking is also a great option, especially in the French Quarter, where the streets are lively, compact, and filled with sights to see.

It was hard to decide what food I wanted to try in New Orleans, as they serve a lot of fried and spicy food, which I do not eat.

On my last day, I went to Napoleon House to try their Special Italian Muffuletta, and I should admit I liked it very much. It was so fresh and tasty. It surprised me; I even liked the olives, and I normally can’t stand them!

If you love baked goods, you can’t leave New Orleans without stopping by the famous Café Du Monde in the French Quarter. Their beignets and chicory coffee have been a local favorite since 1862, and yes — they’re worth the hype.

When it comes to food in New Orleans, just be mindful of the spice level. A lot of Creole and Cajun dishes can be spicy even when they’re not listed on the menu, so always ask your server before ordering. The good news is that there are plenty of mild options too — you just need to check.

Seafood lovers will be in heaven here. Locals often say you can’t fully experience New Orleans without trying its seafood, especially since Louisiana is the nation’s second-largest seafood supplier. I wasn’t lucky enough to try crawfish because it was off-season, but make sure you check the seasonal availability before your trip so you know what’s fresh.

Popular drinks in NOLA include the hurricane cocktail, the resurrection cocktail, the hand grenade, and the so-called ‘huge-ass beers.’

Seattle has been on my travel list for years, and I finally got the chance to visit. I went for a short escape, and while the trip didn’t go exactly as I expected, and I probably wouldn’t travel this way again, it taught me some valuable lessons.

I’ve put together this 48-hour Seattle travel guide to give you a clear idea of what to expect, how to make the most of 24–48 hours in the city, and some handy Seattle travel tips along the way.

Seattle Travel Itinerary

Day 1 

Check in at your hostel or hotel. I opted for the Green Tortoise Hostel, conveniently located in the center, near Pike Place Market and Link. Note that there is an increased presence of homeless individuals in the vicinity, which I was not aware of.

If you arrive late, my best recommendation is to take an Uber and go out for dinner only. I would recommend avoiding walking alone in the evening for safety considerations. It is important to keep in mind that most establishments tend to close relatively early, and it is always advisable to make a reservation ahead of time, as venues can become quite crowded, especially from Friday to Saturday.

Due to my late arrival, this was my itinerary for the first day. I met up with a friend, and we planned to have dinner at a restaurant, but we faced several challenges, such as places being closed or fully occupied because it was Friday. As a result, we ultimately found ourselves at a Mediterranean restaurant.

Day 2 

Start your day with a good breakfast

If you get there during the week, you can check out the famous breakfast place called “Bitch Bisquite” (they closed on Saturday, though). If luck isn’t on your side, there are still other fantastic places around to discover, tailored to your taste and preferences.

Head to the Pike Place Market and observe around
Pike market is a good place to buy fresh flowers, fruits, produce, antique jewelry, or something else. Just go there as early as possible. Otherwise, there will be many people. If you plan to visit the famous, oldest Starbucks right next to the Pike Place Market, keep in mind that, most likely, you will end up in a huge line (unless you are the first person who gets there early).

Explore Seattle Waterfront
After enjoying a delightful breakfast and visiting Pike Place Market, make your way to the waterfront. It is one of the finest areas in Seattle, and along the route, you will pass the renowned Gum Wall, which, to be honest, appears rather unappealing but is still worth a brief stop.

The Waterside in Seattle quickly became my favorite location due to its stunning scenery. You will see many local joggers and dog walkers there, plus there are plenty of places to eat if you’re feeling hungry.

Day 3 

On your last day in Seattle, join a free walking tour. The great thing about the tour is that the guide picks you up right from the hostel, and you walk together to the central meeting point to meet the rest of the group. Suppose you do stay at another hostel/hotel; no worries. The free 101 Seattle tour meetup point is not too far from Pike Place Market. Just walk till the end and turn left, where you will see 2 twin towers.

What to Know About Seattle and Tips to Learn

• It rains a minimum of 150 days
• Seattle has the most significant number of Starbucks, located mostly on every corner in the touristy areas
• To save money, consider avoiding the bus to the Link station from the airport. Instead, take a 10-minute walk: pass the bus station, turn left on University Street, and continue until you reach the train station.
• There are no ticket machines to buy a bus ticket at the airport, and barely any ATMs (if you have no cash). So make sure to take some money with you before you arrive.

Tip: If you plan to use public transport during your stay and wonder how to travel efficiently in Seattle, you can purchase a reloadable Orca card, which costs $3, with a minimum deposit of $10.

If you miss your stop or something else happens, and you have to take the train again, you can continue the journey at no additional cost. I talked to locals and asked if it was official that you could just ride for free, and the answer was “no”. However, if you decide to buy a one-ride ticket anyway, it will cost you from $2.25 to $3.50, depending on the distance.

Best Neighborhoods in Seattle to Explore

• Belltown. At Belltown, you can discover cool bars and check out the Olympic Sculpture Park, which spans 9 acres and showcases stunning art with beautiful views of Puget Sound.

3-Day Austin Itinerary

Day 1: Downtown & Iconic Spots

• Texas Capitol

Explore the Texas State Capitol and learn more about a historic part of the city and state. It’s located in downtown Austin, and if you’re driving, you can park on nearby streets and walk to the Capitol. There’s also a garage that’s usually free for the first two hours, but it’s always smart to double-check since rules can change.

The tour covers most of the main highlights but doesn’t take you through the entire building. It’s a great way to get a sense of the history, but you may want to explore on your own beforehand to see everything.

• Go to Barton Springs Pool

Distance: About 10 minutes from the Texas Capitol by car. This is a must-do in Austin.

The pool is filled with natural spring water, perfect for a refreshing swim on hot days. Even if it’s chilly, you can enjoy a peaceful walk around the area.

Admission is $9 for non-resident adults and $5 for residents. Kids, teens, and seniors pay less, and little ones under 1 enter free. During peak season (May–September), it can get crowded, so expect a short wait if you want to swim.

• Take Pictures by the ‘I Love You So Much’ Wall

Distance: About 7 minutes from the Texas Capitol by car. Head to South Congress to take a fun picture in front of the red graffiti on the green wall. If you wonder about the history behind that sign, it was done by a local artist named Amy Cook in 2010 as a love letter to the coffee shop owner, Liz Lambert.

Day 2: Unique Austin Experience

• Watch the Bats From the Bridge

Distance: About 6 minutes from the Texas Capitol by car. From March to October, witness a spectacular natural event as over a million bats emerge from under the Congress Avenue Bridge around sunset (typically 8 pm). Arrive early to secure a good viewing spot, and bring your camera to capture this unforgettable sight.

• Visit the Cathedral of Junk 

Distance: Approximately 20 minutes from Downtown Austin. The Cathedral of Junk is a fascinating art installation created from everyday discarded items. It’s located on private property, so appointments are mandatory to visit. The fee is $5, and they don’t operate on Sundays. While there’s a glimpse available outside the fence, the real experience lies in getting up close.

I didn’t make an appointment or check the hours, so unfortunately, I could only see it from the outside.

• Get the Best Austin View From the Pennybacker Bridge (Austin 360 Bridge)

Distance: About 15 minutes from Downtown Austin by car. The Pennybacker Bridge offers one of the most breathtaking views in the city, making it a top Austin attraction.

A short 10-minute hike takes you to the top, where you’ll enjoy panoramic sights of the Colorado River, the highway, and Austin’s skyline. Parking is free on the north side of the hill. Be sure to watch your step and stay safe near the edges.

• Get Wild at 6th Street

Distance: Central Downtown Location. Known as a vibrant entertainment district, 6th Street is the perfect place for a night out. Explore the numerous bars with affordable drinks, restaurants offering live music, and exciting meeting spots. Note that the street is closed to traffic on weekends (Thursday to Saturday) at night.

Tip: When planning your Austin itinerary, consider the distances between attractions. Many, like the Texas Capitol, “I Love You So Much” Wall, and Barton Springs Pool, are located within a 10-15 minute drive of each other, making it easy to explore multiple sites in one day.

Day 3: Day trip to San Antonio

On your third day, take a short 4-hour trip to San Antonio, about 1.5–2 hours from Austin. Focus on the highlights: start at the Alamo to explore this iconic historic site and take photos. Then head to the San Antonio River Walk for a relaxing stroll along the scenic riverside with cafes, shops, and gardens.

You can even take a quick boat ride to see the city from the water. After a few hours of sightseeing, head back to Austin in the afternoon to continue exploring the city or relax.

Eating in Austin is a delightful experience, with options for every budget. Whether you crave delicious tacos, juicy barbecue, or excellent coffee, Austin has it all.

Parking is easy, just across the street or at the AMLI garage with free parking available when you get your ticket validated. Jo’s Coffee is an iconic local favorite, so it’s worth the stop while you’re in the area!

How to Get Around Austin: Transportation Tips

Navigating the city is easy with various transportation options, such as the Capital Metro system, bicycles, or scooters. However, a car rental is necessary if you plan to explore outside the city.

For public transportation, a single-ride bus ticket costs $1.25, while a day pass is $2.50. Exact change is required unless you have a pass, which you can purchase at Capital Metro stations, most grocery stores, or by downloading the CapMetro app.

Austin also offers a fantastic bike-sharing system, similar to many other US cities. They provide several options, including pay-as-you-ride ($1.09), unlimited 60-minute trips ($12.99), or an annual membership ($86.60).

Scooters are also a very popular means of transport these days. They are fast, and you can rent them almost everywhere. The cost starts from a $30 membership fee and $0.15 per ride.

Uber and Lyft are now fully back in service after a temporary disruption. You can also try other ride-sharing options like Ride Austin or Fasten, but keep in mind that availability and service quality can vary.

If you require a car rental, you can use platforms like Turo or explore other car rental companies. Daily prices for car rentals start at $10. It is worth noting that traffic in Austin can be challenging, and parking downtown can be problematic. Free parking is available on weekends (Sundays), holidays, and evenings. Downtown Austin is the ideal area to stay in as it is home to most of the activities and is easily walkable, eliminating the need for a car and the hassle of parking.

As someone who used to frequent Austin for business trips, I’ve stayed at various hotels, and one of my favorites is the Moxy Austin – University. This charming hotel, located in Downtown Austin, is an excellent choice for budget-friendly accommodations for travelers. It’s within walking distance of many cafes, restaurants, and the Capitol, making it convenient for exploring the city.

• Visit the Chicago Laugh Factory – I’ve been there a few times, and I was genuinely excited each visit. We laughed so much and had an amazing time. • Learn a New Skill – Take a painting, pottery, soap-making, or other class. You will find a good selection of them on Groupon.

• Listen to live music – Enjoy live jazz music at Green Mill. An entrance ticket will cost you less than $20, and they only accept cash.

• Play Board Games – Want to go somewhere for a drink? Combine it with fun games instead of just sitting in the bar and drinking. Check out Headquarters Beercade, where you will find plenty of choices.

• Visit a Car Museum – Check out the vintage cars museum, Klairmont Kollections. Believe me, if you have never been to such a museum, it is an excellent experience. I’ve been there once, and I should admit it is worth every penny (price $15 – $49.95).

• Visit the St. Patrick Parade – I’m adding one more activity to this list. It’s outdoors, but definitely worth seeing if you’re in Chicago on St. Patrick’s Day (March). Early in the morning, the river is dyed a brilliantly bright green. There’s also a parade, which takes place on the Saturday before St. Patrick’s Day, starting at Balbo and Columbus and heading north to Monroe. Expect lots of people dressed head-to-toe in green. It can get crowded, but it’s an experience you should try at least once. After watching the parade or the Green River, you can finish the day at one of the nearby bars or restaurants. It’s lively, noisy, and a lot of fun.
