New Orleans in one day? Totally doable and insanely fun. Ready for a solo adventure? This is the exact route I crushed, proving that even first-time visitors can soak up the city’s rich culture in just 24 hours. Get ready for beignets, streetcars, mansions, po’boys, jazz, and zero cars needed.

9:00 am – Visit the French Quarter (Start at Jackson Square)

Jackson Square quickly became my favorite spot in the French Quarter. It’s one of the most iconic places in New Orleans, right next to the Mississippi River, with a beautiful boardwalk to stroll along. The area is always full of artists, little shops, restaurants, and museums, which makes it one of the liveliest and most popular places to visit in the city.

10:00 am – Visit Beignets at Café du Monde

Choose an empty table, take a seat, and a waitress will come to you. If you’re in a hurry and don’t want to wait, head to the right-hand window to place your order directly.

Book Food & Culture Tour

11:00 am – Explore the French Market

You’ll find tons of local products, handmade crafts, DIY items, and fun souvenirs at the French Market. Just bring some cash, as many small vendors don’t take cards.

12:30 pm – Walk Bourbon & Royal Streets

Bourbon Street is pretty quiet during the day. However, it comes alive at night, mainly because of the many festivals. This street is full of bars and restaurants with different cuisines. Royal Street is another must-visit in the area. It is one of the original streets in NOLA, which gained popularity because of antique shops, art galleries, and hotels.

Get a quick lunch in some authentic NOLA spots.

2:00 pm – Ride a Vintage Streetcar

If you’re not in a rush, I suggest riding a Streetcar. The single ticket will cost you $1.25, and you can pay the driver directly with exact cash. Alternatively, daily passes are available as well. The streetcars run along four lines, all starting Downtown, providing a unique opportunity to explore both the French Quarter and lesser-known areas

There are two downsides, though:

• It’s slow and not ideal if you must be somewhere at a specific time.

• Drivers don’t always announce stops or the final station, so keep an eye on the map and where other people are getting off.

3:00 pm – Get Lost on Magazine Street

If you are a big shopper, you should check Magazine Street. It is located in Uptown, with many locally owned boutiques, galleries, and restaurants. Just be prepared that you might need to walk a lot, as it is 6 miles long.

5:00 pm – Take a short break at Louis Armstrong Park

If you are tired from walking, get some rest in Louis Armstrong Park. It is a lovely, peaceful park where you can relax on a bench and observe extraordinary sculptures, duck ponds, and different trees and plants. 30-45 minutes is enough to spend there.

6:00 pm – Pay a visit to Carousel Bar & Lounge 

It is located inside the Hotel Monteleone. You will most likely have to wait to get a bar seat, as it is busy over there. However, it offers guests a pleasant, slow carousel rotation around a world-class cocktail bar every 15 minutes, so it might be worth the long wait.

Optional (If Visiting During Mardi Gras Season)

🕘 Anytime – Attend Mardi Gras Events & Parades

If you are in NOLA during Mardi Gras celebration time, you should take advantage of it. It is the biggest celebration in the city. Everybody wears masks, costumes, and beads. It is when people relax, have a lot of fun, and get drunk (just be careful with that).

This event lasts for about two weeks, and you will see a lot of green, gold, and purple colors as they are the traditional colors of the Mardi Gras parade.

A one-way ticket costs $1.25 and requires exact change. You can add a transfer for $0.50 (total $1.75), usually valid for around 2 hours.

Passes are sold in the streetcars by the driver. I bought a 1-day pass (for $3), which I could use on any transport, and it was enough for me as I stayed for two days and walked most of the time. To make it even easier, you can download the LePass App by NORTA to buy your passes directly on your phone.

If you prefer flexibility, rideshares like Uber and Lyft are widely available, and taxis can be found in tourist-heavy areas. Walking is also a great option, especially in the French Quarter, where the streets are lively, compact, and filled with sights to see.

Choosing the right area can make your New Orleans trip feel safer, easier, and much more enjoyable. Here are the best neighborhoods for first-time visitors:

The most iconic area in New Orleans. It’s walkable, lively, and full of cafés, bars, shops, and historic spots like Jackson Square. Expect crowds and noise at night, but the convenience is unbeatable.

Right next to the French Quarter, but much quieter at night. Tons of hotels, restaurants, and easy access to the streetcar—perfect if you want a calmer stay while still being close to the action.

It was hard to decide what food I wanted to try in New Orleans, as they serve a lot of fried and spicy food, which I do not eat.

On my last day, I went to Napoleon House to try their Special Italian Muffuletta, and I should admit I liked it very much. It was so fresh and tasty. It surprised me; I even liked the olives, and I normally can’t stand them!

If you love baked goods, you can’t leave New Orleans without stopping by the famous Café Du Monde in the French Quarter. Their beignets and chicory coffee have been a local favorite since 1862, and yes — they’re worth the hype.

When it comes to food in New Orleans, just be mindful of the spice level. A lot of Creole and Cajun dishes can be spicy even when they’re not listed on the menu, so always ask your server before ordering. The good news is that there are plenty of mild options too — you just need to check.

Seafood lovers will be in heaven here. Locals often say you can’t fully experience New Orleans without trying its seafood, especially since Louisiana is the nation’s second-largest seafood supplier. I wasn’t lucky enough to try crawfish because it was off-season, but make sure you check the seasonal availability before your trip so you know what’s fresh.

Popular drinks in NOLA include the hurricane cocktail, the resurrection cocktail, the hand grenade, and the so-called ‘huge-ass beers.’

Seattle has been on my travel list for years, and I finally got the chance to visit. I went for a short escape, and while the trip didn’t go exactly as I expected, and I probably wouldn’t travel this way again, it taught me some valuable lessons.

I’ve put together this 48-hour Seattle travel guide to give you a clear idea of what to expect, how to make the most of 24–48 hours in the city, and some handy Seattle travel tips along the way.

Seattle Travel Itinerary

Day 1 

Check in at your hostel or hotel. I opted for the Green Tortoise Hostel, conveniently located in the center, near Pike Place Market and Link. Note that there is an increased presence of homeless individuals in the vicinity, which I was not aware of.

If you arrive late, my best recommendation is to take an Uber and go out for dinner only. I would recommend avoiding walking alone in the evening for safety considerations. It is important to keep in mind that most establishments tend to close relatively early, and it is always advisable to make a reservation ahead of time, as venues can become quite crowded, especially from Friday to Saturday.

Due to my late arrival, this was my itinerary for the first day. I met up with a friend, and we planned to have dinner at a restaurant, but we faced several challenges, such as places being closed or fully occupied because it was Friday. As a result, we ultimately found ourselves at a Mediterranean restaurant.

Day 2 

Start your day with a good breakfast

If you get there during the week, you can check out the famous breakfast place called “Bitch Bisquite” (they closed on Saturday, though). If luck isn’t on your side, there are still other fantastic places around to discover, tailored to your taste and preferences.

Head to the Pike Place Market and observe around
Pike market is a good place to buy fresh flowers, fruits, produce, antique jewelry, or something else. Just go there as early as possible. Otherwise, there will be many people. If you plan to visit the famous, oldest Starbucks right next to the Pike Place Market, keep in mind that, most likely, you will end up in a huge line (unless you are the first person who gets there early).

Explore Seattle Waterfront
After enjoying a delightful breakfast and visiting Pike Place Market, make your way to the waterfront. It is one of the finest areas in Seattle, and along the route, you will pass the renowned Gum Wall, which, to be honest, appears rather unappealing but is still worth a brief stop.

The Waterside in Seattle quickly became my favorite location due to its stunning scenery. You will see many local joggers and dog walkers there, plus there are plenty of places to eat if you’re feeling hungry.

Day 3 

On your last day in Seattle, join a free walking tour. The great thing about the tour is that the guide picks you up right from the hostel, and you walk together to the central meeting point to meet the rest of the group. Suppose you do stay at another hostel/hotel; no worries. The free 101 Seattle tour meetup point is not too far from Pike Place Market. Just walk till the end and turn left, where you will see 2 twin towers.

What to Know About Seattle and Tips to Learn

• It rains a minimum of 150 days
• Seattle has the most significant number of Starbucks, located mostly on every corner in the touristy areas
• To save money, consider avoiding the bus to the Link station from the airport. Instead, take a 10-minute walk: pass the bus station, turn left on University Street, and continue until you reach the train station.
• There are no ticket machines to buy a bus ticket at the airport, and barely any ATMs (if you have no cash). So make sure to take some money with you before you arrive.

Tip: If you plan to use public transport during your stay and wonder how to travel efficiently in Seattle, you can purchase a reloadable Orca card, which costs $3, with a minimum deposit of $10.

If you miss your stop or something else happens, and you have to take the train again, you can continue the journey at no additional cost. I talked to locals and asked if it was official that you could just ride for free, and the answer was “no”. However, if you decide to buy a one-ride ticket anyway, it will cost you from $2.25 to $3.50, depending on the distance.

Best Neighborhoods in Seattle to Explore

• Belltown. At Belltown, you can discover cool bars and check out the Olympic Sculpture Park, which spans 9 acres and showcases stunning art with beautiful views of Puget Sound.
• Pike Place Market. Dive into the lively downtown Seattle, where you’ll find a variety of charming cafes, restaurants, art galleries, and museums.
• Waterfront.  Amazing waterfront spot with incredible views of the water, mountains, and city. You can also find key attractions like the Seattle Great Wheel, the Seattle Aquarium, and Ye Olde Curiosity Shop right here.
• Ballard. This area is known for its Scandinavian and maritime roots, featuring a variety of cute shops, cozy restaurants, and bars.
• Fremont. A cool neighborhood packed with vintage stores, home to the well-known headquarters of Google and Adobe Systems, plus the famous Fremont Troll sculpture, along with other fun spots.
• Pioneer Square. Explore Seattle’s original neighborhood. Visit the Central Saloon (the oldest bar in Seattle), the Iron Pergola & Tlingit Indian Totem, and the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park. However, be aware that a considerable homeless population may be present in this area.
• Queen Anne. This area is among the biggest in Seattle, mostly situated on a hill. While you’re there, you can check out the Pacific Science Center, Museum of Pop Culture, Space Needle, and Chihuly Garden and Glass at the Seattle Center.

Whether you’re into great food, music, or outdoor activities, there’s something for everyone. If you’re planning a trip to Austin, you’ll want to make the most of your time there!

3-Day Austin Itinerary

Day 1: Downtown & Iconic Spots

• Texas Capitol

Explore the Texas State Capitol and learn more about a historic part of the city and state. It’s located in downtown Austin, and if you’re driving, you can park on nearby streets and walk to the Capitol. There’s also a garage that’s usually free for the first two hours, but it’s always smart to double-check since rules can change.

The tour covers most of the main highlights but doesn’t take you through the entire building. It’s a great way to get a sense of the history, but you may want to explore on your own beforehand to see everything.

• Go to Barton Springs Pool

Distance: About 10 minutes from the Texas Capitol by car. This is a must-do in Austin.

The pool is filled with natural spring water, perfect for a refreshing swim on hot days. Even if it’s chilly, you can enjoy a peaceful walk around the area.

Admission is $9 for non-resident adults and $5 for residents. Kids, teens, and seniors pay less, and little ones under 1 enter free. During peak season (May–September), it can get crowded, so expect a short wait if you want to swim.

• Take Pictures by the ‘I Love You So Much’ Wall

Distance: About 7 minutes from the Texas Capitol by car. Head to South Congress to take a fun picture in front of the red graffiti on the green wall. If you wonder about the history behind that sign, it was done by a local artist named Amy Cook in 2010 as a love letter to the coffee shop owner, Liz Lambert.

Did you know that they have a wall with the opposite sign? Which is “I hate you so much.” It is located in a “Bungalow” on Raine Street.

Distance: Just a 5-minute drive from the ‘I Love You So Much’ Wall, this colorful South Congress mural is a must-see. Tip: Wear bright clothing to make your photos stand out.”

Day 2: Unique Austin Experience

• Watch the Bats From the Bridge

Distance: About 6 minutes from the Texas Capitol by car. From March to October, witness a spectacular natural event as over a million bats emerge from under the Congress Avenue Bridge around sunset (typically 8 pm). Arrive early to secure a good viewing spot, and bring your camera to capture this unforgettable sight.

• Visit the Cathedral of Junk 

Distance: Approximately 20 minutes from Downtown Austin. The Cathedral of Junk is a fascinating art installation created from everyday discarded items. It’s located on private property, so appointments are mandatory to visit. The fee is $5, and they don’t operate on Sundays. While there’s a glimpse available outside the fence, the real experience lies in getting up close.

I didn’t make an appointment or check the hours, so unfortunately, I could only see it from the outside.

• Get the Best Austin View From the Pennybacker Bridge (Austin 360 Bridge)

Distance: About 15 minutes from Downtown Austin by car. The Pennybacker Bridge offers one of the most breathtaking views in the city, making it a top Austin attraction.

A short 10-minute hike takes you to the top, where you’ll enjoy panoramic sights of the Colorado River, the highway, and Austin’s skyline. Parking is free on the north side of the hill. Be sure to watch your step and stay safe near the edges.

• Get Wild at 6th Street

Distance: Central Downtown Location. Known as a vibrant entertainment district, 6th Street is the perfect place for a night out. Explore the numerous bars with affordable drinks, restaurants offering live music, and exciting meeting spots. Note that the street is closed to traffic on weekends (Thursday to Saturday) at night.

Tip: When planning your Austin itinerary, consider the distances between attractions. Many, like the Texas Capitol, “I Love You So Much” Wall, and Barton Springs Pool, are located within a 10-15 minute drive of each other, making it easy to explore multiple sites in one day.

Day 3: Day trip to San Antonio

On your third day, take a short 4-hour trip to San Antonio, about 1.5–2 hours from Austin. Focus on the highlights: start at the Alamo to explore this iconic historic site and take photos. Then head to the San Antonio River Walk for a relaxing stroll along the scenic riverside with cafes, shops, and gardens.

You can even take a quick boat ride to see the city from the water. After a few hours of sightseeing, head back to Austin in the afternoon to continue exploring the city or relax.

Eating in Austin is a delightful experience, with options for every budget. Whether you crave delicious tacos, juicy barbecue, or excellent coffee, Austin has it all.

If you love tacos, Torchy’s Tacos is a must-visit in Austin. With locations all over the city, you’re never far from a tasty taco. Try the Mr. Orange for some heat or the Brushfire for a spicy kick.

Tacos are sold individually, so plan on ordering at least two. Torchy’s is a local favorite for its fresh ingredients and creative flavors, a perfect stop while exploring the city.

Terry Black’s BBQ

If you love barbecue, you should visit Terry Black’s BBQ. You’ll enjoy delicious, affordable meals, and the lines usually move quickly, so you won’t wait long to dig in.

Crepe Crazy

This charming European-style café serves a variety of delicious crepe toppings. Don’t be surprised if the kitchen and staff seem quiet, as all the employees are deaf. They use a visual menu at the register, so you can easily place your order by pointing to what you want.

Jo’s Turbo Coffee

After taking some great photos by the “I Love You So Much” wall, head over to Jo’s Coffee for a Texas-style turbo coffee. It’s just around the corner, making it a perfect spot to relax and refuel. They also serve delicious food if you’re hungry.

Parking is easy, just across the street or at the AMLI garage with free parking available when you get your ticket validated. Jo’s Coffee is an iconic local favorite, so it’s worth the stop while you’re in the area!

How to Get Around Austin: Transportation Tips

Navigating the city is easy with various transportation options, such as the Capital Metro system, bicycles, or scooters. However, a car rental is necessary if you plan to explore outside the city.

For public transportation, a single-ride bus ticket costs $1.25, while a day pass is $2.50. Exact change is required unless you have a pass, which you can purchase at Capital Metro stations, most grocery stores, or by downloading the CapMetro app.

Austin also offers a fantastic bike-sharing system, similar to many other US cities. They provide several options, including pay-as-you-ride ($1.09), unlimited 60-minute trips ($12.99), or an annual membership ($86.60).

Scooters are also a very popular means of transport these days. They are fast, and you can rent them almost everywhere. The cost starts from a $30 membership fee and $0.15 per ride.

Uber and Lyft are now fully back in service after a temporary disruption. You can also try other ride-sharing options like Ride Austin or Fasten, but keep in mind that availability and service quality can vary.

If you require a car rental, you can use platforms like Turo or explore other car rental companies. Daily prices for car rentals start at $10. It is worth noting that traffic in Austin can be challenging, and parking downtown can be problematic. Free parking is available on weekends (Sundays), holidays, and evenings. Where to Stay in Austin: Top Neighborhoods and Hotels

Downtown Austin is the ideal area to stay in as it is home to most of the activities and is easily walkable, eliminating the need for a car and the hassle of parking.

If you celebrate bachelorettes or birthdays or want to be closer to the entertainment, 6th Street is your choice.

As someone who used to frequent Austin for business trips, I’ve stayed at various hotels, and one of my favorites is the Moxy Austin – University. This charming hotel, located in Downtown Austin, is an excellent choice for budget-friendly accommodations for travelers. It’s within walking distance of many cafes, restaurants, and the Capitol, making it convenient for exploring the city.

The hotel has a cozy lobby where you can work, play games, grab a drink, or just relax. They also serve Zombie Tacos 24/7, offering tasty food anytime.
